Collaborative Drone Interactions in Decentralized Resource Networks
September 19, 2021 - October 1, 2021
Sarntal Valley, South Tyrol, Italy
Course Description
In this course, we will build a prototype for an autonomous drone-based water quality management system. In the future, we plan to extend the system so it can be used to control the water quality of Lake Nokoué, in Benin, West Africa, which regularly suffers from water pollution.
We will use drones and smart sensors, e.g., buoys. These devices and a set of web services will enable an autonomous system to measure the water quality in a lake near our hotel. The sensor readings will be collected every day by the drone fleet and reported to visualization system. The drones will communicate with each other to enable a high degree of automation.
To build and deploy the software to the IoT devices, we will focus on continuous software engineering. We will use frameworks such as Apodini to push the boundaries of continuous software deployment involving heterogeneous IoT devices.
The project will address the following topics:
- Continuous software engineering for IoT systems
- Autonomous flight of a drone swarm
- Smart sensor devices
- Decentralized peer-to-peer architecture for IoT devices
